How to Measure Your Dog
- The body length (A-B) is measured from the breast bone to the tail. Include some, but not all, of the tail if it is long. For really thick, hard tails, you should measure more of the tail, or else it will whack on the trailer every time they wag their tail. To this, add approximately 2 inches (5cm) for small dogs and 4 inches (10cm) for larger dogs to get the length of the dog.
- The shoulder height (C-D) is measured from the withers (highest bony part of dog shoulder blades) to the ground.
